             Entries in place – Tuesday, August 9, 8:00am – noon

Showmanship– Thursday, August 11, 1:00 pm

Heifer and Feeder Steer Show – Thursday, August 13, following Beef Show

Release Time & Date – By Saturday, August 14, 8:00pm.

RULES and REGULATIONS

1.     Enter ALL Beef Cattle on the Livestock Entry Form.

2.     Please note General rules that apply to the Beef Cattle.

3.     The decision of the judge is final.

4.     All cattle will be shown by age.

5.     If in the opinion of the Beef Cattle Committee, an exhibitor willfully violates any of the rules governing the fair, all premiums won by he/she will be forfeited.

6.     Wood mulch bedding will be provided by the Augusta County Fair.

7. Exhibitor will be required to maintain their respective area in a reasonably clean and orderly condition at all times.  Please leave stalls as you found them.  Also keep aisles clean at all times.

8.     The storage of excessive hay and feed will not be permitted in the barns.  No straw is allowed.

9.   The assignment of stall and tack space will be made by the Beef Committee.

10.   No smoking in barns.

11.   All cattle must be shown by the exhibitor except when they have two entries per class ( except Showmanship classes); then another can show the animal.

12.   All cattle must be halter broken to lead and secured with a halter and/or neck tie.

13.   Exhibitors must make registration papers available to the Beef Committee if requested and abide by Fair Association rules.

14.   Only two animals per exhibitor will be allowed per class.

15.   Any animal which, in the opinion of the Beef Committee, constitutes a health or behavior hazard must be removed from the grounds.

16. Showmanship will be divided in to four divisions: Novice (under 9 years of age and first time showing); Junior (9 – 11 years of age); Intermediate (12 – 13 years of age); Senior (14 – 19 years of age); ages as of September 30, 2011.

17. All feeder steers must be de-horned, castrated and healed.

18. Ownership deadline for cattle is August 8, 2010.

19. Beef Cattle shows are open to other states and Virginia counties.

20. Ownership is not required for the Showmanship classes.  Animals may be borrowed at the show.

21. If cattle numbers exceed capacity of barn, open cattle may be asked to come in later than August 9, 2011.

22. All beef cattle shown in open beef  show and showmanship will be shown clean and dry—no adhesives.

23.  ALL LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS MUST BE REGISTERED WITH THE AUGUSTA COUNTY FAIR AS PARTICIPANTS TO BE PAID ANY PREMIUM MONEY.

24. ENTRY FEE: $5.00/Head/Class; $5.00/Group/Class

25. PREMIUM AWARDS: 1st$20.00, 2nd$18.00, 3rd$15.00, 4th $12.00, 5th $9.00.

Section A: Beef Showmanship: ages as of September 30, 2011, only                 

                   Classes 2-4 eligible for Champion and Reserve Champion Showman

Class 1 – Novice  (for first time showman)

Class 2 – Junior (ages 9-11)

Class 3 – Intermediate (ages 12-13)

Class 4 – Senior (ages 14-19)

Class 5—Champion Showman

Class 6—Reserve Champion Showman

Section B: Open Breeding Heifer Show

Class 7 – Angus Heifers born after January 1, 2010

Class 8 – Polled Hereford Heifers born after January 1, 2010.

Class 9 – Simmental Heifers born after January 1, 2010.

Class 10 – Shorthorn Heifers born after January 1, 2010.

Class 11 – Club Bred Heifers born after January 1, 2010.

Class 12 – All Other Breeds Heifers born after January 1, 2010.

Class 13 – Champion Breeding Heifer.

Class 14 – Reserve Champion Breeding Heifer.

Section C: Commercial Heifers

             Class 15—Commercial  Heifers born after January 1, 2010

                 Class 16– Champion Commercial Heifer

                 Class 17– Reserve Champion Commercial Heifer

Section D: Feeder Calf Show

             Class 18—Feeder Calf born after Sept. 1, 2010

(more than 8 entries will be divided into sub-classes at Fair)

Class 19 – Champion Feeder Calf

Class 20—Reserve Champion Feeder Calf

Section E: Bred and Owned Heifers

Note: The exhibitor must be the breeder and first owner

                 Class 21 – Bred and Owned Heifers (Heifer must also be entered in Class 5-10)

Section F: Pee Wee Showmanship

Note: Exhibitor must be under the age of 9 as of September 30, 2011. 

                 Class 22—Pee Wee Calf (dairy or beef calf is eligible if born after December 31, 2010)
